REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, REVIEW OF GENERIC LETTER (GL) 96-06, " ASSURANCE OF EQUIPMENT OPERABILITY AND CONTAINMENT INTEGRITY DURING DESIGN-BASIS ACCIDENT CONDITIONS" (TAC NOS M96854 AND M96855)
Dear Mr. Anderson:
By letters dated Decenuer 30,1996 and January 28,1997, Northern States Power Company (NSP) submitted its 30-day and 120-day responses to GL 46-06. In order to review NSP's actions with respect to the two-phase flow and waterhammer issues in GL 96-06 for Prairie Island Units 1 and 2, the staff requires some additional information. Our request for additional information (RAll is enclosed.
Please provide your response to the staff's RAI within 30 days of the date of this letter in order to support the staff's review schedule for GL 96-06. If you have any questions regarding the content of the RAI, please contact me at (301) 4151355.

THE TWO-PHASE FLOW AND WATERHAMMER ISSUES IN GL 96 06 FOR PRAIRIE ISLAND UNITS 1 AND 2 7
The staff requests copies of the following information in order to support a review of the two-phase flow and waterhammer issues in GL 96-06 for Prairie Island Units 1 and 2:
1.
A complate' description of the waterhammer and two phase flow analysis that provides enough detailed information about the analysis methodologies and assumptions that were used to allow the staff to complete an independent assessment of the analysis; 2.
Documentation for the actual analysis performed, along with any background and other supporting information that is necessary for the staff to complete an independent assessment of the analysis; and 3.
A copy of the most recent P&lDs [ piping and instrumentation diagrams) for the system in question and the associated piping elevation diagrams.
