ANNOUNCEMENT OF INSPECTION OF LOW AND MEDIUM VOLTAGE POWER CIRCUlT BREAKERS PER TEMPORARY INSTRUCTION (TI) 2515/137, REV.1
Dear Mr. Myers:
This is to inform you that the NRC will perform an inspection of medium-voltage and low-voltage power circuit breakers at your Peny Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1. This inspection will be conducted in accordance with Temporary Instruction 2515/137, Revision 1, " Inspection of Medium-Voltage and Low-Voltage Power Circuit Breakers." The inspection's onsite activities are scheduled for the week of May 18,1998. The details of this incpection were communicated to Mr. Todd Henderson, of Regulatory Affairs Department, on Tuesday, April 21,1998.
The inspection will assess safety-related medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear j
maintenance and engineering activities, refurbishment and lubrication methods, programs to i
address NRC and manufacturers' generic communications, procedures, training, and your activities for low-voltage and medium-voltage breakers under 10 CFR 50.65, "the Maintenance l
Rule." In addition, this review will assess breaker maintenance history information and breaker L
reliability.

l We request that you arrange a short presentation following the entrance meeting regarding the maintenance program, maintenance history and material condition of the low and medium voltage power circuit breakers installed at Perry.
A request for information will be forwarded to you via the senior resident inspector by May 1, 1998.
