Dear Mr. Rathbun:
1 I have been further contacted regarding the rejection of a proposed uranium enrichment plant in Claiborne Parish by the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board by Mr. Daniel Bosse.
Please give the enclosed information the appropriate consideration within federal regulations. Information from you about this issue would be helpful. Your reply may be forwarded to the attention of Sara Traigle.
Thank you for your attention and consideration.
Sincerely,
~
JOHN BREAUX United States Senator JB/ set Enclosure 9708150202 970700 m
4 May 14,1997 Senator John Breaux Congress of the United States Senate 9 7 NY 2 1 F,'l 9 g3 Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Senator Breaux,
The executive order signed back in 1994 by President William Clinton, requiring federal agencies to look for bias against minorities or poor people in envi issues, has reared its ugly head. The recent ruling against a proposed uranium enrichment p!r.nt, dose te, Homer, Louisiana, is a farce.
The economic impact combined with the extremely low environmental risk ma this project a great opportunity for both the state of Louisiana and the s communities. Unfortunately, unaltected and ulterior motived individuals had an impact on what would have been a wonderful life altering opportunity for a po rural area. These opportunities do not come along very often!
In the future, I would like the legislative branch of the U.S. government to think such executive orders completely through Rather than allow uninformed extremist environmentalist the opportunity to fan the flames of doom perhaps the level headed scientist and economic researchers should play a greater role in the decision making process. Once again a decision rendered under the gaze of go disallowed a proven technology and allowed a small group of judges to legislate will of the people from the bench, Shame on this whoie process.
Your response and thoughts on the proposed Louisiana Energy Services L.P. p wot.~ be appreciated?
God Bless You, kc&fTs& -
