Nuclear Property Insurance Gentlemen:

In Reference (b), Maine Yankee informed the USNRC that the Board of Directors of Maine Yankee had decided to permanently cease operations and that fuel had been permanently removed from the reactor. In accordance with 10CFR50.82(a)(2), the certifications in the letter modified the Maine Yankee License to permanently withdraw Maine Yankee's authority to operate.

Maine Yankee has requested exemption from certain financial protection requirement limits delineated in 10CFR50.54(w) as discussed in Reference (c). USNRC has requested additional information, Reference (d), concerning beyond design basis accident scenarios required by the staff for their review of our request for exemption.

Until the staffcompletes its review and grants the requested exemption, Maine Yankee will continue i

to maintain the required nuclear property insurance in compliance with 10CFR50.54(w) force to protect the Maine Yankee site at Wiscasset, Maine, as follows:
