INTEGRATED MATERIALS PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROGRAM (IMPEP) REVIEW OF MASSACHUSETTS RADIATION CONTROL PROGRAM This memorandum transmits to the Management Review Board (MRB) a proposed final report (Attachment 1) documenting the IMPEP review of the Massachusetts Radiation Control Program. The review of the Massachusetts program was conducted by an interoffice team during the period January 12-16,1998. The team issued a draft report to Massachusetts on February 10,1998, for factual comment. Massachusetts sent factual comments by letter dated March 16,1998, from Mr. Robert M. proposed final report).

The review team found Massachusetts' performance with respect to each of the common performance indicators and the non-common indicator, Legislation and Regulations, to be satisfactory. The review team found Massachusetts' performance with respect to the non-I common indicator, Sealed Source and Device Evaluation Program, to be satisfactory with

recommendations for improvement. Accordingly, the team recommends that the Management 1

Review Board find the Massachusetts program to be adequate to protect public health and safety and compatible with NRC's program.
