We have reviewed your application dated July 16,1999, requesting amendment to registration NR-186-D-117-G related to Models NW-201 Series, NW-301 Series, NW-401 Series Photon Gaug6s. 1.0 Enaineerina And Desian 1.1 Please specifically state the grade and type of Series 300 stainless steels to be used in the construction of source housing. (Sne your request to change Page 2, paragraph 2 of the registration certificate NR-186-D-117-G).
1.2 You are requesting a revision to the " PIPE" requirements on page 2 of the current registration certificate. We note that by this change request you are climinating a reference to Schedule 40 pipe requirements. You must provide guidance to installers regarding minimum pipe wall thickness requirements to ensure the gauges support structural integrity and shielding.
- 1.3 A reference is made to 10 CFR 20.120(a). Please verify that you mean 10 CFR 20.1201. (See Attachment V Page 1, item A,last sentence.)
- 2.0 Workina Life Of Sources Please state the expected working life of the sources and the devices. By working life we mean the physical working life of the sources and devices and not half life of the sources.
- 3.0 Fabrication of Ba-133 Sources Please confirm that fabrication and materials of construction of Ba-133 sources and devices will be the same as outlined in the original application for Cs-137 sourcec and devices.
4.0 Berthold QA/OC Manual 4.1 Please submit a copy of your current OA/QC Manual.
-4.2 On the shipping survey forms please address the issues of non-conforming items. You may write instructions for the shippers; for example, you could indicate that, if the radiation level at any accessible surface is above 5.0 mrem /hr do not ship the source, or remove sources following procedures for defective equipment as per the Berthold Systerri Inc. QA/QC manual.

5.0 Emeraency Response information Hazardous Materisis description in the original application need; to be updated to reflect the inclusion of Ba-133. Please state the correct emergency telephone or telephone numbers. A Photon Shield Label Specific License Drawing, Part No. 62310 lists a

8.0 NW-201 Series It appears from your application that NW-201 Series source housings will not have more than 500 Ci and will not be installed on pipes less than a 2" diameter. ~ Please confirm if this~ is your intent. If sources greater than 500 Ci will be used explain how you will
. meet the 2 mrem /hr dose limits for the source housing. (see your attachment II).
