Maryland University Training Reactor Staffing
REFERENCE:
Letter, Christou (UMD) to Adams (NRC) datet ebruary 4,1998, regarding personnel appointments at the Training Reactor.
Dear Professor Christou:
I On February 5,1998, Messrs. Alexander Adams and Thomas Dragoun of the NRC visited you and Professors Marela Gavrilas and Gary Pertmer of your staff. A discussion was held regarding recent appointments of en Interim Heactor Director and Operations Manager, and reactor staffing. During the discussion, you stated the following:
1.
Training and experience of new reactor staff appointees will be reviewed by the Reactor Safety Committee to ensure commitments in the Safety Analysis Report are satisfied.
2.
The University plans to continue to use the reactor and will submit an application for renewal of the license. A faculty committee is scoping the required effort.
Optionally, a consultant may be hired to assist with the relicensing effort.
l 3.
Professor Muhammad Al-Shiekly will become the Reactor Director at some future date.
4.
The Reactor Safety Committee met with the reactor operations staff and satisfactorily addressed their concerns regarding staffing.
