SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-416/97 15
Dear Mr. Hagan:
An NRC inspection was conducted September 16-19, 1997, at your Grand Gulf Nuclear
Station reactor f acility. Tne enclosed report presents the scope and results of that
inspection.
The inspection included implementation of your emergency plan and procedures during your
biennial emergency preparedness exercise. Overall, the performance during the biennial
exercise was satisfactory; however, three exercise weaknesses were identified. The three
exercise weaknesses involved: (1) the f ailure to adequately monitor the use of emergency
equipment and supplies in the operations support center, (2) the f ailure to provide
protective measures for security personnelin the security island area, and (3) the f ailure to
make protective action recommenc,ations for three downwind af fected sectors.
Exercise weaknesses, eccording to 10 CFR Part 50, Apg,endix E.IV.F.2.g are inspection
'
findings that need to be corrected by the licensee. Therefore, you are requested to provide
this office with a description of your corrective measures and your schedule for completing
these actions within 30 days af ter receipt of this letter.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Should you have questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss them
with you.
