' October 3,1997 10 CFR Part 2 U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attn: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLAN s Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Additional Reply to Notice of Vic!ation (Inspection Report 97011),
inadequate Aiming of Emergency Light In our letter of August 25,1997 we responded to a Notice of Violation from Inspection Report 97011. The Notice of Violation contained three violations. Your letter of September 4,1997 requested additionalinformation regarding corrective actions for Violation 3.
Your letter stated:
In your response, you dist:ussed redirecting an emergency light to illuminate part of the access / egress pathway for the Safeguards Bus 15 room, but did not discuss the unlighted portion of the pathway in the east / west hallway where the door to the room is located. We consider that unlighted portion of the pathway to \\
be part of the Violation. NRC resident inspector discussions with the system k
engineer hiicated that you have plans for additional corrective actions for that problem. You are requested to submit an additional response to Violation 3 which discusses corrective actions to illuminate the entire pathway to the
/
b Safeguards Bus 15 room.
/
The NRC resident inspector's understanding that we have plans for additional corrective action is correct. In fact, we plan to install additionallighting in the hallway by the end of October 1997. This had been the plan when we had submitted our original response in August. These plans were not discussed in the original response due to a misunderstanding on our part of the scope of the violation. The rest of our original response remains valid. We regret any inconvenience that this misunderstanding may have caused.
