SUBJECT: NRC INSPLCTION REPORT 50 482/9714 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION-
Dear Mr. Maynard:
An NRC inspection was conducted August 10 to September 20,1997, at your Wolf Creek
Generating Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of
that inspection.
During this inspection, three cited violations of NRC requirements were identified in the
'
operations and plant support areas. Violation A is of concern because operations
personnel implemented Technical Specification Amendment 108 in a manner that failed to
provide shift supervisors with adequate guidance for implementing Technical Specification 3.6.3 Violation B is of concern because another radiation worker failed to
'
comply with radiation work permit requirements. While this violation is repetitive, notable
corrective actions demonstrate that you have placed additional emphasis on this issue.
Violation C occurred when radiation protection personnel failed to perform the surveys
'
required and, consequently, allowed the dose rate in an unrestricted area to exceed
10 CFR 20.1301 limits.
These violations are cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the

circumstances surrounding the violations are described in detailin the enclosed report.
Please note that you are required to respond to this letter and should follow the
instructions specified in the enclosed Notice when preparing your response. The NRC will j
use your response, in part, to determine whether further enforcement action is necessary
to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements,
