NEWLY APPOINTED DAM SAFETY OFFICER
DearMr. Andress:
This is to advise you that as of March 5,1998, E. Joseph Callan, Executive Director for Operations (EDO), has appointed Mr. Joseph J. Holonich, Chief, Uranium Recovery Branch
- (URB), Division of Waste Management, as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Dam
. Safety Officer (DSO). Mr. Holonich will be responsible for the continuing implementation of the Dam Safety Program (DSP). This includes developing guidance documents, procedures, training programs, and other aspects necessary for adequate program implementation. Mr. Holonich is more involved on a day-to-day basis with the implementation of NRC's DSP, and he is in a better position to deal with issues related to dam safety.
Individual program offices within NRC will continue to be responsible for implementing the
. program by regulating their specific licensees. These responsibilities will be carried out through
- the efforts of Office Directors' representatives to the Dam Safety Advisory Group. Mr. Daniel S.
Rom will continue to serve as Deputy DSO, allowing him to make on-the-spot decisions and to act as Mr Holonich's representative as necessary. Mr. Holonich's address is:
