SUBJECT:
MEETING WITH NORTHERN STATES POWER COMPANY TO DISCUSS MODIFICATIONS TO PRAIRIE ISLAND, UNITS 1 AND 2, TO IMPROVE PLANT RESPONSE TO CERTAIN ANTICIPATED TRANSIENT WITHOUT SCRAM (ATWS) EVENTS INVOLVING A LOSS OF ALL FEEDWATER.

To discuss a modification to Prairie Island, Unit: 1 and 2, which will add a diverse reactor trip system to shut down the reactor in the event of an ATWS event. The proposed modification will provide additional safety margin for AWVS events, including events involving a loss of all feedwater. The licensee will provide a preliminary description of the diverse trip system design, based upon design activities conducted to date. The licensee will also provided an updated schedule for completing design work, submittal of information in support of associated licensing action requests, and implementation of the modification on both Units.
