Dear Mr. DeLaBarre:
Enclosed is an application for a license (XSOU8772), recently received by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, for the export of 700.0 kilograms of natural uranium and 700.0 kilograms of thorium, contained in 500,000 kilograms of tantalum and columbium minerals.
The material will first be exported to Sogem SA in Belgium for distribution to the ultimate consignees in China, Germany and Thailand where the material will be processed for recovery and refining of the tantalum and columbium and ultimately distributed for non nuclear end uses.
Before taking action on this request, we would appreciate your views regarding the proposed export.
