EVALUATION OF THE SECOND 10-YEAR INTERVAL INSPECTION PROGRAM PLAN INTERIM RE0 VEST FOR REllEF FOR V.C. SUMMER NUCLEAR STATION. UNIT 1 (TAC NO. M98145)
Dear Mr. Taylor:
The staff with technical assistance from its contractor. the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) has reviewed and evaluated the information provided by the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company in its letter dated February 25. 1997 regarding the implementation of Code Case N-566.
However. Code Case N-566 is currently under review by the staff and has not been approved for use by reference in Regulatory Guide 1.147.
Inservice inspectton Code Case Acceptability. ASW Section XI. Olvision 1.
In response to an NRC request for additional information (RAl) regarding the use of Code Case N-566. the licensee submitted an interim alternative in lieu of the requirements of lWA 5250(a)(2) in a letter dated July 30, 1997. for V. C. Summer Nuclear Station. Unit 1.
The staff concluded that the licensee's proposed interim alternative is acceptable.
The staff's evaluation and conclusions are contained in Enclosure 1. is the INEEL Technical letter Report.
This review under TAC No. M98145 remains open until the staff's review of Code Case N-566 is completed.
