Dear Mr. Beach:
As we have previously discussed, Mr. Michael B. Sellman joined Wisconsin Electric on March 2,1998, as Sr. Vice President. Mr. Sellman has very rapidly become involved in our nuclear program. I am aware he has had several conversations with you pertaining to Point Beach issues.
At this point I am very confident that Mr. Sellman has the necessary background, experience, knowledge and capability to take responsibility as Chief Nuclear Officer for Wisconsin Electric.
I have discussed my expectations for this role with him and he is ready. Therefore, as of March 26,1998, Michael B. Sellman is officially designated as Chief Nuclear Officer of Wisconsin Electric.
I continue to be very actively involved in our improvement initiatives for Point Beach and I will support Mr. Sellman in his role of Sr. Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer. I intend to remain a visible participant in the nuclear area and will continue to ensure that Wisconsin Electric's resources are brought to bear as we continue the significant performance improvement initiatives that were begun last year. I will, from time to time, communicate with you and NRC personnelin the Washington offices to maintain an ongoing dialog. While I expect you will find Mr. Sellman to be a very capable and competent nuclear executive, as he has been in his other assignments, I hope you will continue to feel free to contact me at any time.
A number of weeks ago we discussed Wisconsin Electric's desire to come to the Region to talk about the findings of our recent engineering self-assessment and the actions we plan to strengthen engineering performance. Mr. Sellman will follow-up to assure we visit with you and your staff in the near future.
Please advise your staff of this change, as appropriate. We are taking the necessary steps to revise our NRC service list and will forward a copy of this letter to NRC's Document Control Desk, the NRC Resident inspector, the NRC Project Manager, and the Director - NMSS.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
~
Sincerely.
