Dear Mr. Reyes:
Enclosed is a copy of the final exercise report for the June 4,1997, full participation plume exposure pathway exercise of the offsite radiological emergency response plans site specific to the Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant. This report addresses the evaluation of the plans and preparedness for the State of Alabama's appropriate jurisdictions within the 10 mile Emergency Planning Zone Copics of this report will be forwarded to the State of Alabama and FEMA IIcadquarters by my staff.
All objectives of the exercise were demonstrated. One Deficiency concerning the accuracy of Emergency Alert messages generated by Morgan County was identified. This Deficiency was corrected during the August 18,1997, remedial drill. Two Areas Requiring Corrective Action (ARCA) were also identir :d during the exercisc.
Based on the results of the June 4,1997, exercise and the August 18,1997, Remedial Drill, the offsite radiological emergency response plans and preparedness for the State of Alabama and the affected local jurisdictions site-specific to the Browns Ferrv Nuclear Power Plant can be implemented and are adequate to provide reasont.ble assurance that appropriate measures can be taken afsite to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency at the sit e. The Title 44 CFR, Part 350, approval of the State of Alabama's offsite radiological
-mergency response plans and preparedness site specific to Browns Feny Nuclear Power Plant granted on July 6,1990, will remain in effect.
