CONFIRMATORY SURVEYS OF SELECTED ENGLEHARD CORPORATION BUILDINGS, CLEVELAND, OHIO (INSPECTION REPORT 999-90063/97007(DNMS))

Dear Mr. Kopas:

This refers to the confirmatory surveys conducted on October 20-21,1997, December 18-19, 1997, and March 4,1998, of the Englehard buildings located at 1000 Harvard Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. The confirmatory surveys were conducted to release for unrestricted use the interior surfaces of Buildings W-1 (Warehouse); L-1; E-1 (Garage); R-3; L-2 (Southside Locker Room); L-5 (Raw Shed); H-11 and related Electrical Building; and Buildin9 F-1 (Foundry). We discussed the preliminary results of our surveys with you on October 21,1997, December 19, 1997, and March 4,1998. We also discussed the results of the Region 111 laboratory analyses of l

the samples collected during the surveys with you via telephone on March 17,1998.

The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies the areas surveyed duririg the confirmatory surveys.

The confirmatory surveys of the interior surfaces of Buildings W-1 (Warehouse); L-1; E-1 (Garage); R-3; L-2 (Southside Locker Room); L-5 (Raw Shed); H-11 and related Electrical Building; and Building F-1 (Foundry) identified no residual radioactive material in excess of the NRC unrestricted release guidelines. Those buildings can be released for unrestricted use.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were identified.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room. ,
