Subject:

A shipment of solidified (cement) radwaste enroute from the Dresden site, Morris, Illinois to the Chem Nuclear burial ground near Barnwell, South Carolina overturned at approximately 12:30 p.m. (8/29/78) at the l intersection of I 59 and I 24 in Georgia near Chattanooga, Tennessee. l The shipment consisted of 18 individual 55-gallon steel drums loaded in a radwaste shipping cask. Radiation levels exterior to the cask were The individual .==c less than 100 mR/hr on departure from the Dresden site.

Region III received notification of this occurrence from the Dresden onsite inspector at 2:00 p.m. on August 29, 1978.
