The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation _

Subject:
TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENT A shipment of solidified (cement) radwaste enroute from the Dresden site, Morris, Illinois to the Chem Nuclear burial ground near Barnwell, South Carolina overturned at approximately 12:30 p.m. (8/29/78) at the intersection of I 59 and I 24 in Georgia near Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The shipment consisted of 18 individual 55-gallon steel drums loaded in a radwaste shipping cask.
Radiation levels exterior to the cask were less than 100 mR/hr on departure from the Dresden site.
The individual

Region II has responded to several inquiries from the local news media.
Region III received notification of this occurrence from the Dresden onsite inspector at 2:00 p.m. on August 29, 1978.
