REVIEW AND COMMENT ON DRAFT NATIONAL DAM SAFETY BIENNIAL
. REPOR.T FOR 1998-1999- .
Dear Mr.- Bathurst:
< .On September 22,1999, you requested that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)-
review and comment on the draft National Dam Safety Biennial Report for 1998-1999. The Report presants information which the Federal Emorgency Management Agency (FEMA)
L recently acquired from member organizations of the Interagency Committee on Dam Safety (ICODS) and from the various state agencies which deal with dam safety issues. The NRC, which is a member of ICODS, submitted its input to your office on July 26,1999.
Le :The draft Report accurately identifies the number and type of dam structures in NRC's -
progrsm on page 13.

,; hazard dams, the' NRC has confirmed that assistance with EAP planning is available from the' Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), if required. i t

Bathurst Finaliy, the $ummary Status of Dams, Dam inventory Table, appended to the Report, correctly states the number of dams in NRC's program, along with the confirmation of 12 inspections during the report period. However, the table does not show that the 12 (site) inspections covered all 19 structures in NRC's program, thus all dams were re-inspected by NRC in 1998-1999. Three NRC sites have multiple dams.
