Dear Mr. Perry:
On August 28,1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Dresden Generating
Station, Units 1,2 and 3. The purpose of the inspection was to review the solid
radioactive waste processing and shipping program, portions of tha radiation monitoring
instrumentation and test program, and selected Unit 1 decommisaloning activities. The
enclosed report presents the results of this inspectlan,

Overall, your solid radioactive waste and transportation programs were effectively
implemerited. In particular, station procedures reflected the changes in Department of
Transportation and NRC regulations, and training had been provided to the workers. The
}
material condition of your solid radioactive waste systems and storage areas was good,
and your efforts to decrease the amount of waste stored onsite were successful. Unit 1
decommissioning activities were continuing with appropriate oversight end radiological
controls.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
We will gladly discuss any questions you have concerning this inspection.
