REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATED TO THE~

FERMI-2 RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 96 06 (TAC NO. M96811)

In its January 28, 1997 (NRC-97 0003).-letter responding to Generic-

~ Letter 96-06, Detroit Edisen (DECO) identified six pipes that penetrated-containment and were susceptible to thermally-induced pressurization. DECO indicated that it had evaluated these penetrations for operability. DECO also indicated that it would monitor the ongoing discussion of the generic issue between the NRC and the Nuclear Energy Institute and design and install

. modifications, as necessary. to provide adequate overpressure protection for the affected drywell piping penetrations.

The NRC requests that DECO provide summaries of the evaluations performed for the pipes in the six affected penetrations. The summaries should include fabrication drawings of the piping sections evaluated and describe'the method ,

or analysis, including the assumptions used in the analyses, and the results.

The-response from DECO should also explain how the criteria used for the evaluations meet the licensing basis criteria for Fermi 2 and provide the schedule for the completion of any modifications that may be required.
