50-328 SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT - TVA-NRC MEETING OF MAY 21, 1987 In the course of the subject meeting (as documented on page 293 of the emeting transcript), when discussing the significance of Watts Bar with respect to Sequoyah restart, TVA made an incorrect statement in regard to technical differences between the two plants. TVA stated that the seismic ground accelerations for the two plants are different. The seismic ground accelerations are the same for Sequoyah and Watts Bar.
However, the response spectra are different for the two plants. As a-result, the seismic loads are greater at Watts Bar than those at Sequoyah. Designs for plant features such as pipe supports are different for the two plants. The seismic ground accelerations and response spectra for each plant are documented in section 3.7 of their respective Final Safety Analysis Reports.
This matter was discussed with J. A. Zwolinski on June 11, 1987. If you have any questions, please telephone D. L. Williams at (615) 632-7170.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY 8707010400 870624 F
