NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-925/97-03

Dear Mr. Larsen:

, ' On November 19,1997, the NRC concluded an onsite inspection of the Cimarron site near Crescent, Oklahoma. On March 2,1998, the NRC completed the inspection, and held a telephone discussion with a member of your staff in regard to the results of NRC analysis of confirmatory soil samples. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.>

The inspection covered the work in progress related to the placement of in-situ soil meeting NRC Branch Technical Position Option 2 criteria in Pit 3. Soil sampling activities conducted by your staff were observed.' Nine soil samples were collected from Pit 3 for analysis by the NRC.

' As part of the NRC's confirmatory sampling program for the Cimarron site, the results of these soil samples wereiompared with tne results of the soil samples collected at the same locations by Cimarron. The results of the nine soil samples confirmed that the soil in Pit 3 met the NRC '

Branch Technical Position' Option 2 criteria.-

An Unresolved item was closed concoming the documentation of waste handling and transportation training required by U.S. Department of Transportation regulations that were not avilable during a previous inopection. No violations or deviations of regulatory requirements wwe identified during this inspection.

In acccrdance with 10 CFR 2.700 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room. Should you have any questions i . concoming this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.
