NRC APPROVAL FOR RELEASE OF SOUTHEST WING FOR UNRESTRICTED USE Dear Mr Cronmiller i
1 On February 23 - 26,1998, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted an inspection at the former Clevite Corporation site located at 540 East 105th Street, Cleveland, OH. Inspectors evaluated final status survey data and conducted confirmatory surveys in affected rooms in the Southeast wing (Rooms 1,7,8,9,10,11,18, and SE hallway) to support NRC's decision to allow release of the southeast wing for unrestricted use. Based on the final survey data presented in the Final Status Survey Report (FSR)) and results of NRC's confirmatory survey, NRC has determined that the southeast wing is suitable for unrestricted use.
Although NRC also conducted confirmatory surveys in several rooms in the West wing, we are unable to release the West wing of the facility until the waste drums and furnace are removed from Rooms 1,2, and 15, and the area is surve' < 1 by Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc.
