~l This review addresses changes to the Zion Station Fire Protection Report (FPR) contained in  ;

-Amendment 4, as committed to in the referenced letter. The commitments are associated with the Notice of Deviation 50 295(304) 96005 07. The deviation concerned a statement in the FPR #

- which indicated that the north wall of the drum fill aren (El. 592' 0") is a 3.hr rated barrier when, '

in fact, there are viewing windows and an unsealed hole in the barrier. In response to the deviation, Zion Station committed to: 1) correct the barrier descriptive error, and 2) review l Section 3.0 of Volume 2 of the FPR to determine if there are other fire barrier descriptive errors ,

of the same type. This FPR update provides the identified changes.

In addition, an FPR change resulting from SQV CAR 22 96 026 is included. This change is required to reflect a fire barrier modification (Exempt Change E22 0 93 258).

Attachrnent A is a change summary which describes the individual changes made to the FPR.

  • Attachment B contains the replacement pages, new index, and an instruction sheet for inserting

- the changes. .

GENERAL Amendment 4 consists of changes Most of.the changes are associated related to fire barrier with a review performed as a result-

[ descriptions. of the NRC Notice of Deviation '

contained in IR 50-295/304-96005.-

The purpose of the review was to  !

identify fire barrier descriptive ,

errors of the same type identified in the deviation (i.e., cases'in which the text states that a barrier is a rated fire barrier but1also-indicates the presence of unsealed ,

or non-rated penetrations). For Appendix R barriers or barriers associated with an Appendix R exemption, an effort was made'to

^.

preserve the text in its existing state, since this information may {

have formed the basis for the NBC acceptance of Zion Appendix R i compliance.
