REPORT OF LOST POLONIUM-210 SOURCE
Dear Mr. Payton:
Thank you for your May 18,1999, letter notifyMg NRC Region til office of the loss of a polonium-210 source used in a static elimination device. The device, Model P-2042 was i
manufactured by NRD, Inc., and contained a nominal 15 millicuries (555 MBq) of polonium-210 i
as of February 10,1998. You indicated that on or about March 1999, the source was discovered missing. We understand that because your interviews with employees and search efforts to recover the missing source proved unsuccessful you concluded that the device was inadvertently discarded of as ordinary waste. We have reviewed your letter and have no questions at this time.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
