REPORT OF LOST POLONIUM-210 SOURCE
Dear Ms,
Rohrick:
Thank you for your June 15,1999, letter notifying NRC Region lli office of the loss of a polonium-210 source used in a static elimination device. The device, Model P-2031 (Serial No. 99861) was manufactured by NRD, Inc., and contained a nominal 15 millicuries (555 MBq) of polonium-210 as of March 4,1998..You indicated that on or about March 22,1999, the '
source was discovered missing. We understand that because your interviews with employees
,'and search efforts to recover the missing source proved unsuccessful you conc.luded that_the device was inadvertently discarded of as ordinary waste. We have reviewed your letter and have no questions at this time, in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter will be
' placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
