NRC's application review of the GrayStar irradiator. Between July 12-16,1999, Mr. Hamiter
..was a member of the review team which conducted, at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md., a safety. evaluation of the application that we received from GrayStar, Inc.
l He provided highly valuable contribution to the evaluation process from a number of different l
perspectives. Specifically,' his expertise in irradiators enabled him to expedite the review for the 4
l entire tum.' His familiarity with the applicable national standards clarified the requirements for I
proper interpretation. With his experience in reviewing sealed source and device applications, the team was able to complete the review of all subjects necessary for the evaluation of this extensive application within the allotted time.
in addition, he worked during the week end of July 17-18,1999, on issues which emerged on the last day of his stay regarding interpretation of standards and provisions of the regulatory

requirements for licensing irradiator facilities. Mr. Hamiter e-mailed his results to the tem leader early Monday moming, July 19,1999.
