~~ N Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant 2807 West County Road 75 Monticello, MN 55362 March 19,1998 U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission 10 CFR Part 50 Attn: Document Control Desk Section 50.90 Washington, DC 20555 MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 Supplement to License Amendment Request Dated August 15,1996 Revision of Statement on " Normal" Shift Length and Other Misc. Changes This letter supplements our license amendment request dated August 15,1996 which proposed changes to the Technical Specifications, Appendix A of the Operating License for the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. This information is submitted in accordance with the provisions of 10 CFR Part 50, Section 50.90.

Our objective is to achieve consistent wording throughout the Technical Specifications and to provide a sound basis for the frequency of actions required each shift. The Technical Specifications were originally issued when the operators shifts were 8 hours9.259259e-5 days <br />0.00222 hours <br />1.322751e-5 weeks <br />3.044e-6 months <br /> long. Shifts have since been extended to 12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br />. We are requesting that the "once per shift" wording be changed to "once per 12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br />" which is consistent with NUREG 1433, " Standard Technical Specifications." Exhibit A provides further discussion and a list of allinstances of where "once per shift" is used.

We are also proposing to clarify "once per hour" wording related to fire watch patrols to make implementation more practical.

Several corrections to typographical errors on the affected pages are also being requested.

This submittal contains no new NRC commitments, nor does it modify any prior commitments.

Please contact Sam Shirey, Sr Licensing Engineer, at (612) 295-1449 if you require additional l

information re ated to this request.
