Dear Mr. Price:
Your Quality Assurance Program A) proval No. 0440 is hereby terminated. The L Nuclear Regulatory Commission pu)lished a final rule, effective June 27, 1997, i
revising the requirements of 10 CFR Part 34 " Licenses for Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for Industrial Radiographic Operations." The revision, which contained numerous changes in the-requirements, also modified the quality assurance (0A) requirements for transportation, As a result of these changes, a separate NRC OA program approval is no longer needed.
Specifically, transportation activities are now contained in a new paragraph, 10 CFR 71.101(g). This provision was added to the regulations and requires ;
that inspection and maintenance 3rograms limited to radiographic exposure devices, source changers, or paccages transporting these devices and meeting g the provisions of 10 CFR Part 34.31(b), or equivalent Agreement State ,
regulations, satisfy the general license requirements specified in 10 CFR Part '
71.12(b) for Type B transport packages.
