In a March 11,1998, letter, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRQ acknowledged the Petition you submitted on February 2,1998, on behalf of your organizations, pursuant to 10 CFR 2.206, in the NRC's acknowledgment letter, the staff enclosed a February 10,1998, letter to the Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) requesting more information on the issues raised in your Petition. On March 12,1998, NNECO provided its initial response to the NRC's February 10,1998, letter. On March 26,1998, NNECO provided a copy of the contract investigator's report and requested that it be held from public disclosure due to the personal information it contained. On April 24,1998, NNECO provided supplemental information to the NRC regarding this issue and reiterated its position that the investigator's report should be withheld from public disclosure in its entirety. This letter is enclosed for your information. A copy of this letter was also faxed to Mr. Gunter on April 30,1998.

The NRC staff is still reviewing NNECO's submittals to determine the appropriate course of action regarding this issue. Additionally, the NRC staff has not made a final decision regarding NNECO's request to withhold this report in its entirety. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at (301) 415-1455.
