On January 9,1997, the NRC issued for comment, a proposed Generic Letter " Year 2000 j
Readiness of Computer Systems at Nuclear Power Plants," which would request licensees to provide certain information regarding programs, planned or implemented, to address the Year 1
2000 (Y2K) problem in computer systems.
1 North Atlantic Energy Service Corporation (North Atlantic), the operator of Seabrook Station, has reviewed the material within the proposed Generic Letter. North Atlantic believes that sufficient guidance for addressing the Y2K issue has been provided by NEI/NUSMG. We l
believe that as a result of the industry's efforts the proposed generic letter is unnecessary. The I
l nuclear industry is already fbcused on this issue and further regulatory effort can be met through J
inspection versus placing additional burden on the licensee.
