Dear Mr.-Stickler:
Your Quality Assurance Program A) proval No. 0429 is hereby terminated. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission pu)lished a final rule, effective June 2)
- 1997, revisitig the requirements of 10 CFR_ Part 34. " Licenses for Industrial Radiography and Radiation Safety Requirements for Industrial Radiographic 0perations;" The revision, which contained numerous changes in the requirements, also modified the quality assurance (0A) requirements for transportation.
As a result.of these changes, a separate NRC OA program approval.is no longer needed.
Specifically, transportation activities are now contained-in a new paragraph.
10 CFR 71'.101(g).
This provision was added to-the regulations and requires
-that inspection and maintenance arograms limited to radiographic exposure-devices. source changers, or paccages transporting these devices and meeting
- the provisions of 10 CFR Part 34.31(b). or equivalent Agreement State regulations, satisfy the general license requirements specified in:10 CFR Part 71.12(b) for Type B transport packages.
