Dear Dr. Jackson:
a a
We in East Hampton live only 15 miles from the Millstone Nuclear Powerplants in M Connecticut and so an more susceptible to the toxic radioactive nuclides which they N release into the air and water than are most of the citizens of Connecticut. n <
We understand that you are considering reopening Reactors 2 and 3as a support to the financial health of Northeast Utilities and we write to ask that our physical health be the more important factor in your decision.
The millions of gallons of sea water which are used as coolant each day and discharged back into the sea as well as regular radioactive dixharges into the air and in addition special
" Events" which release even more are a constant threat to us.
Now they tell us that we on the South Fork have a dramatically raised inciden ce of breat cancer... higher than anywhere in our County which already has a higher rate than most otherareas of the country. Babies and children are 10 to 20 times more radiosensitive and i
prone to develop cancer from radiation than are adults. Please give somethought to them.
We are surrounded by Dmokhaven on the west and Millstone on the north.our ground water being poisoned, our sea water and fish population being poisoned, our very air being poisened.
We look to you...the REGULATORY agency which is supposed to be our protector to make certain that we continue to get some long needed relief. PLEASE... DON'T Reopen Millstone.
Thank you for your consideration.
