Dear Mr. Youngblood:
In the Matter of
)
Docket Nos. 50-327 Tennessee Valley Authority
)
50-328 SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 - 10 CFR 50.62 - SCHEDULE FOR COMPLIANCE In a letter dated September 24, 1986, from C. Stable to S. A. White, NRC provided a copy of the generic safety evaluation for the Westinghouse Owners Group topical report WCAP-10858, "AMSAC Ceneric Design Package." NRC concluded in the safety evaluation that the generic design is acceptable for meeting the requirements of 10 CFR 50.62; nowever, many plant-specific details were needed to ensure conformance with the rule. NRC requested that TVA provide a schedule for addressing the plant specific design features of the system being developed for Sequoyah and a schedule for implementation of the system within 30 days of receipt of the letter.
TVA will provide the plant-specific details identified in th9 generic safety evaluation report by February 15, 1987. TVA provided preliminary implementation schedule information in a letter from R. H. Shell to i
H. R. Denton dated October 11, 1985. At that time, TVA identified j
implementation for unit 1 by the end of the cycle 4 refueling outage and for unit 2 by the end of the cycle 3 refueling outage.
TVA is revising the unit 2 implementation schedule because of the late issuance of the generic safety evaluation for WCAP-10858. The implementation schedule for unit 2 will now be by the end of the cycle 4 refueling outage. No dates have been established for these refueling outages because of the extended shutdown. TVA will provide additional information on the implementation schedules after the restart of each unit.
Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY R.
