I 670 N. Terrace Avenue Mount Vernon, New York 10552 i

April 13, 1987 l'

Director Nuclear Regulatory Commission I am writing to express my opposition-to the i

Shoreham N'uclear Plant for the following reasons:

1.

Nuclear energy is uneconomic, If the Priceb Anderson Act were repealed, nuclear energy would not be considered by anyone.

Shoreham, in particular, is an economic disaster because i

of its excessive building costs, i

2 Nuclear waste would have to be transported through the New York City area, and the caska' safety has not been tested with " hot" nuclear waste.

3 In our democratic, constitutional society, an agency (NRC) should not counteract the wishes of the county and statg.and in opposition to safety evacuation. procedures-(or lack of them).

d.'

The GAO has produced numerous reports on the safety, costa, and financial consequences of nuclear energy (Si~ : June '86' Compendium of e

Reports).

Please confirm the receipt of this letter, and enter it into the minutes of the Shoreham hearings.

Sincerely, Charles Roda 870513o072 870505 hDR ADOCK 05000322 PDR
