April 20, 1987 Mr. Thomas E. Murley, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Subject:
Byron Station Units 1 and 2 Application for Amendment to Facility Operating Licenses NPF-37 and NPF-66 Appendix A, Technical Specifications NRC Docket Nos. 50-454 and 50-455 References (a): March-18, 1986 letter from K. A. Ainger to H. R. Denton (b): July 15, 1986 letter from L. N. Olshan to D. L. Farrar
Dear Mr. Murley:
Reference (a) requested an amendment to the Technical Specifications to revise the measurement range of the triaxial acceleration sensors in the seismic monitoring system. This amendment was requested because the seismic instrumentation had been alarming with no other indication of a scismic event. Reference (b), based on NRC Staff review, indicated alternate methods should be pursued to eliminate the spurious alarms from the seismic monitoring system. This is to inform you that a modification is being implemented so the triaxial acceleration sensors will be less sensitive to spurious external noise signals. Therefore, the license amendment requested in reference (a) is no longer necessary and is hereby withdrawn.
Please direct any questions regarding this matter to this office.
Very truly yours,
