/ MINUTES OF THE JULY 9,1986 MEETING 0F THE ACRS SUBCOMMITTEE ON LONG RANGE PLAN FOR THE NRC WASHINGTON, D.C.
A meeting was held by the ACRS Subcommittee on the Long Range Plan for the NRC. The purpose of the meeting was to allow the Subcomittee to

continue discussions on developing comments on a long range plan for the NRC. Topics under discussion are primarily technical issues related to the regulation of nuclear power plant safety and safety regulation over the next five to ten years.
This meeting was a closed executive session. The meeting was closed to protect material which was predecisional in nature and material which was supplied to the Subcommittee in confidence.
Richard Major was the cognizant ACRS Staff member for this meeting. The meeting began at 1:10 p.m. and ran until 6:25 p.m.
Attendees M. Carbon, Chairman D. Moeller, Member F. Remick, Member C. Wylie, Member G. Reed, Member R. Major, Staff J. Parry, Fellow M. De, Fellow It was decided to modify the guidelines for an NRC Long Range Plan which had been prepared at previous subcommittee meetings. These guidelines contain the advice presented to the Subcommittee by senior members of the nuclear power industry and regulatory staff, as well as input from the Subcommittee itself.
The meeting consisted of reviewing this twenty-page document and editing it in anticipation of presenting it to the full ACRS for its consideration.
It was expected that the full Committee could take one of three paths with this document.
First, it could adopt the guidelines as a Committee position and send them to the Commission. Second, it could allow the guidelines to be sent to the Commission for its consideration as a U

Finally, the full Committee could decide to terminate work on this effort and table the guidelines.
The Chairman requested three hours of full Committee time be set aside for consideration of the Long Range Plan during the August full Committee meeting, August 7-9, 1986.
