Dear Mr. MacDonald:
Chem-Nuclear Systems, Inc.
(CNSI) committed to the United Statas Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in the above reference to respond to the incident regarding our 1-13G cask (Certificate No. 9044).
A presentation was made to NRC personnel on April 9,1987 detailing the occurrence and corrective action to be taken with the subject cask.
At that date, CNSI committed to submitting a written report on this subject, eight copies of which are enclosed with this letter.
We are also submitting, under separate cover, an application for a separate cask model number.
The documentation will include the cask drawing with the modified baseplate, CNSI requests approval to return this cask to service following the successful completion of the weld repair (a detailed procedure presented in the enclosed document).
Please feel free to contact me if you, or members of your staff, have any questions concerning this report.
