October 20, 1986 5211-86-2181 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attn:
J. F. Stolz, Director PWR Projects Directorate No. 6 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
Dear Mr. Stolz:
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station Unit I (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Inservice Testing (IST) of Pumps and Valves GPUN has received your letter of October 3,1986 which transmits the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) for THI-l's IST program for the second ten year i nterval. The SER grants relief or interim relief needed for the balance of the current operating cycle. The SER however has denied some of the relief for tests which GPUN considers to be impractical and raises new questions which were not addressed in your letter of July 15, 1985, and were not raised during the September,1985 meeting in Bethesda or the conference call with the NRC in October,1985.
In order to resolve the remaining issues and be
~
responsive to your request for additional technical information, GPUN requests the opportunity to meet with the NRC in Bethesda at the earliest date your schedule permits. Attachment 1 is GPUN's proposed agenda. The complexity of the issues is such that we feel that a meeting is necessary.
Sincerely, H. D.
