May 6, 1987 Docket No. 99901070/06-01 Ladish Company Industrial Products Division ATTN: Mr. W. A. McRoberts Manager, Quality Assurance Route 6, Box 175 Russellville, Arkansas 72801 Gentlemen:
Thank you for your letter of March 27, 1987, in response to our letter dated February 2,1987. We have reviewed your response and find that it does not adequately address the concerns raised in our Notice of Violation. The following additional information is needed.
(86-01-01)- Describe what Ladish Company (LC) does to upgrade coninercially procured starting material when it is dedicated as a basic nuclear component.
The P0s referenced in the Notice of Violation to Charles C. Kawin were for mechanical and analytical testing and for calibration services to Magnaflux, Mid-South Calibration, Edmunds Manufacturing and Starrett. The violation was written against LC's failure to impose 10 CFR Part 21 requirements upon vendors including those supplying services. Since " services" are considered a " basic component" (reference Section 21.3(a)(3) of 10 CFR Part 21) describe the corrective and preventive actions taken by LC to alleviate the finding described in the Notice of Violation.
Please provide this additional information within 30 days from the date of this letter in order that we may ccmplete our review in a timely manner.
Sincerely, Original Signed by Ellis W. Merschoff Ellis W. Merschoff, Acting Chief Vendor Inspection Branch Division of Reactor Inspection and Safeguards Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation DISTRIBUTION:
