Subject:

Byron Station Unit 2 l NRC Cat Inspection NRC Docket No. 50-455 Reference (a): January 24, 1986 letter from D. L. Farrar to J. G. Keppler

Dear Mr. Keppler:

Reference (a) provided Commonwealth Edison's response to the inspection report of the NRC Construction Appraisal Team (CAT). One of the inspection findings involved radiographic film which was not retrievable.

The radiographic films are for components supplied by Westinghouse. In response to this CAT inspection finding, Commonwealth Edison's Quality Assurance Department has been auditing Westinghouse for radiograph retrievability. As a result of this audit effort, it has become apparent that some additional radiographs may be mislocated. Westinghouse has developed an action plan to account for these radiographs. We will inform l you of the results of their efforts by October 15, 198,6.

Please direct any questions regarding this matter to this office.
