ALTERNATE RADWASTE BUILDING PREOPERATIONAL TESTS

Dear Mr. Denton:

In recent discussions, your staff requested information concerning the preoperational testing of systems associated with the Alternate Radwaste Building (ARB). Information concerning ARB systems is provided herein.

The waste water demineralization system, the resin dewatering system and the dry active waste compaction system are the three temporary operating systems located in the ARB. The first two systems were supplied by NuPac Services.

These systems were designed, assembled, installed, calibrated as appropriate, hydroed, flushed and test operated, at the site, by NuPac. All maintenance, including annual instrument recalibrations, is to be provided on an as required and/or preventive basis.

The compactor was transferred from Plant Hatch where it was in operation until earlier this year. The manufacturer of the compactor checked its operability before shipment to Plant Vogtle and will check the unit again before it is placed in routine operation.

The described activities are considered to be the preoperational testing inside of the ARB. Other radwaste system piping was or is being tested as part of permanent systems.
