DRAFT COPY OF THE EVALUATION ON WELDING FOR SEQUOYAH UNITS 1 AND 2 This letter is to acknowledge receipt of your November 14, 1986 letter on the above subject and to establish a schedule for TVA's response to the four issues identified in your letter.
Although TVA has been in the process of resolving the four issues discussed, the complete resolution and response require coordination among various elements of the TVA Office of Nuclear Power to ensure necessary program changes are made in all organizations that have responsibility for activities which affect the welding program.
Therefore, the responses to your questions will be submitted by January 31, 1987.
In addition to the review which has been completed and submitted to NRC, TVA will cont 8.nue to assess welding problems identified at other sites for generic applicability to Sequoyah (SQN) as we committed to in our Januatcy 17, 1986 weld program description (Volume I).
For example, the problems at Watts Bar with structural bracing connections on elevation 741 in the control building, the discrepancies in radiograph interpretation, and the question of adequacy of the steam generator snubbers tang plate welds have been and are being assessed for applicability to SQN.
We will notify you immediately if our continuing generic review identifies problems which are applicable to SQN.
The results of any such evaluations will also be included as addenda to the Sequoyah Phase II report (Volume III).
