REVIEW 0F DURANGO (80D0 CANYOf!) FIfiAL DESIGN REVISIONS In accordance with your recent recuest, we have reviewed the subject erosion protection design changes. These design changes. with associated hydraulic calculations, vere dated June, 1986 and were submitted in response to discussions held at a recent (May, 1986) meetirg in San Francisco.
Based on our review, we cc.nclude that DOE needs to provide a commitirent that the erosion protection that will be keyed into bedreck ir several locations (southeast and rerthwest) will be keyed into ccmpetent bedrock. DOE needs to provide assurances that the bedrock is capable of resisting erosier end that the rock is not highly-weathered or highly-fractured. Changes shculd he rede, as appropriate, to the final remedial action plan.
m Overall, we conclude that the design changes are acceptable and recomend that concurrence be given for the final remedial action plan, if the ccmitrents discussed above are included.
