On Tuesday, October 14, 1986, a meeting was held at the South Texas Project to discuss environmental sampling and plan the initial installation of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) environmental radiation monitoring s

TLD network stations around the South Texas Project site.

Representatives from i

the Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control; Houston Lighting and Power; and the NRC, Region IV were in attendance.

h The topic of discussion centered around coordinating the efforts of the Houston Lighting & Power radiological services staff and the Texas Bureau of Radiation Control personnel to collect and split samples of environmental media.

The Texas Bureau of Radiation Control, pursuant to the NRC/ State of Texas Environmental Monitoring Cooperative Agreement No. NRC-31-83-671, is to provide independent measurements of radioactivity and radiation levels in the i

environment around the South Texas Project.

Results of the discussion are summarized in the attached report.

The initial NRC environmental radiation monitoring TLD network stations for the h

South Texas Project were placed with the assistance of Dr. M. J. Preusse and l

Dr. R. A. Cripps of your staff during the period October 15-17, 1986.

as Attachment 1 to the report is a listing and detailed descriptions of the 46 L

TLD stations which were established.

A map indicating the Houston Lighting and Power, State of Texas, and NRC TLD sites is also provided.

Monitoring Cooperative Agreement No. NRC-31-83-671, around the South Texas Project on or about January 1, 1987, to meet the agreements stated in a letter dated April 15, 1986, to you from R. L. Bangart of my staff.
