TROJAN NUCLEAR PLANT Updated Final Safety Analysis Report. Amendment 5 In accordance with 10 CFR 50.71(e), one original and 12 conformed copies of this letter and its attachments are submitted in support of Amendment 5 to the Trojan Nuclear Plant Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR),

l l 13 sets of which have been transmitted under separate cover. This amend-ment consists of changes associated with control room habitability stich were not completed in time to be incorporated into our annual FSAR update submitted in Reference 1. Each copy of Amendment 5 is accompanied by a l

l set of instructions for inserting it into the Updated FSAR. The replace-l ment pages contain " change bars", ie, vertical lines in the margin l adjacent to the portion actually changed, and each replacement page is labeled " Amendment 5 (September 1986)". A summary of the changes is provided in Attachment 1.

Section 2.2.3 - The toxic gas analysis is revised. The description of the sulfur dioxide detectors is deleted along with the commitment to install ammonia detectors.

Section 3.1 - The control room emergency ventilation system (CB-1) is added to the list of systems for which the single-failure criteria applies.

Section 3.3.2 - An exclusion from tornado missile protection for the CB-1 outside air intake pipes is added.

Section 6.4.2.3 - The leak rate for control room isolation dampers is specified.

Section 6.4.4 - The toxic gas analysis is revised. The description of the sulfur dioxide detectors is deleted along with the commitment to install ammonia detectors.

Figure 7.7 This figure is highlighted to show the control room boundary.

Section 9.4 - The introduction to this section is revised to clarify that the codes and standards listed were applicable for original procurement of equipment.

Section 9.4.1.1 - Loss of normal power is deleted as a condition for which CB-2 is designed to function. CB-1 is designed to function upon loss of normal power.

Section 9.4.1.2 - The description of the SO2 detectors is deleted.

Section 9.4.1.2 and 9.4.1.3 - The description of the electric preheaters in CB-1 is deleted.

Section 9.4.1.2.3 - The description of the operation of systems CB-3,

-4, -5, -6, and -10 is revised.

Section 9.4.1.3 - Conformance with Regulatory Guide 1.52 is revised.

Chapter 15 - Doses to control room personnel from non-LOCA accidents are revised.

Numerous editorial and administrative changes are made for consistency.
