Dear Dr. Adam:
We are in receipt of your letter of March 14, 1986 renewing our license SNM-567.
As you know, Monsanto has closed-down the business and is in the process of completing the decommissioning activities. All buildings and equip-ment have been removed and/or decontaminated to acceptable limits. There remains to be accomplished the submittal to you of a final report / survey, and the removal of 130 drums and four steel boxes of TRU waste (i.e.,
greater than 100 nCi/g of TRU material). The waste material is housed in the concrete waste storage bunker. We are now talking with the Department of Energy with respect to their disposing of the TRU waste and believe this is a likely prospect.
Mr. Harlan Toy, Site Safety & Industrial Hygienist, is assigned additional responsibility as the Site Radiation & Safety Officer and you should note this where appropriate.
Mr. Steve Hoadley and other cognizant personnel at the Mound Facility (DOE) will be available for technical consultation on an "as needed" basis.
Mr. Toy will be responsible for day-to-day security in accordance with our NRC License.
