SUBJECT:
TRIP REPORT - TRANSNUCLEAR. INC.
AIKEN, SOUTH CAROLINA ATTENDEES: Merri Horn, NRC Paul McCreery, Site Manager, Transnuclear, Inc.
On June 2,1987, the Transnuclear, Inc., site in Aiken, South Carolina, was visited. Transnuclear has applied for a new license to authorize storage of UFg cylinders containing SNM heels. A tour of the site included the proposed storage area. The site is fenced, with barbwire strands at the fence top.
Security lights are located around the periphery. There is one building located at the front of the site. At the time of the site visit, the proposed storage area had not been graveled. The area outside the fence is typical of a rural environment with tree, brush, and grass covered land. The current activities at the site are covered by a State license.
The additional information needed for the licensing review was discussed.
Enclosed is a list of questions provided to the applicant during the meeting. ,
