hRC TMI-2 CLEANUP PROJECT DIRECTORATE WEEKLY STATUS REPORT FOR JUNE 1 - 7, 1987 1.
DEFUELING Pick and place defueling continued.
Partial length assemblies A-9 and C-10 were loaded into canisters.
Six canisters were loaded, four were transferred to the spent fuel pool.
To date approximately 100,000 lbs of core material have been removed cut of a total of approximately 300,000 lbs. The total weicht includes the weight of the core 207,000 lbs; structural and adsorber material, 78,000 lbs; additional mass added by oxidation of core and structural material 8,500 lbs; and nass added by partial melting of the core support essembly and core former wall.

ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sample analysis results show that TMI site liquid effluents are in accordance with regulatory lineits, NRC require.ments, and the City of Lencaster Agrecuent.
TMI water effluents from the station (Units 1 and 2) discharge are analyzed by EPA. Gamma spectrum analyses of the seven daily composited samples for May 16 - 23, 1987 indicated no THI-2 related radioactivity.
EPA's gamma spectrum analysis of the NRC's TMI outdoor air samples for May 28 - June 4,1987 showed no reactor related radioactivity.
The water works for the City of Lai, caster composited seven daily samples frcm May 17 - 23, 1987.
EPA's gacea spectrum analysis of the composite sample showed no reactor related radioactivity.

DECONTAMIRATION ACTIVITIES Removal of spent resir: frem the spert fuel pool cleanup demineralizers has begun.
These depleted resins contain lov levels of radioactive materials, primarily frcm tha cleanup of bara ted water storage tank water.

PUBLIC MEETIfiGS The next meeting of the Advisory Panel for the Decontamination of Three Mile Island Unit 2 will be held on June 10,1987 frem 7:00 - 10:00 PM at the Lancaster Council Chambers, Public Safety Building, 201 North Duke Street, Lancaster, PA.
At the meeting, GPU Nuclear will give the Panel a status report on the progress of the cleanup and will coment on the schedule for completing the remaining cleanup tasks. The Panel will discuss the timing for a final Ccmmission decision on the disposal of the accident-generated water and will forward a reconner.dation to the Comission. Members of the public will be given the opportunity to address the Panel.
